This was another game of good starting pitching and little offense, which is what the Angels use frequently to win. The Angels got 16 hits on Saturday night, and despite leaving 14 runners on base, squeaked out a win in 10 innings, 3-2. Juan Rivera hit a bases-loaded single in the 10th to win the game and give the Angels a shot at a series win tomorrow against the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays started out the scoring in the 4th inning against ace John Lackey, on an RBI single by their star outfielder Alex Rios. Torii Hunter tied the game the bottom half of that inning with his 7th home run of the season. Rod Barajas hit a solo homer in the 7th to give the Jays a 2-1 lead, but the Angels immediately tied the game again with back to back doubles by Reggie Willits and Howie Kendrick. The score wouldn’t change until the bottom of the 10th, when Brian Tallet loaded the bases. Jason Frasor was then brought in to pitch to Juan Rivera. Halos win 3-2 on Rivera’s single to center field.

  • John Lackey pitched a heck of a ballgame, giving up 2 runs (1 Earned) in 8 innings. Unfortunately, he did not get a decision.
  • On the other side, Shawn Marcum gave up 11 hits in 7 innings but managed to strand most of the Angels runners.

After a stellar 8 inning shutout performance at the Chicago White Sox on May 24th, Jered Weaver got knocked around last night against the Blue Jays as Toronto ran away with the game, 10-4. Weaver gave up 10 hits and 6 earned runs in 4 innings, to raise his ERA to a not-so-pleasant 4.69 and drop his win-loss record to 4-6. On the other side, Blue Jays’ right-hander Dustin McGowan won on the road for the first time in 6 starts this season, giving up 4 runs (3 earned) in 6 innings. McGowan is now 4-4.

For the Angels offensively, Torii Hunter had 3 hits and Casey Kotchman drove in 2 runs. It wasn’t enough against the Jays, however, as Lyle Overbay and Scott Rolen led the scoring for them. Overbay hit 2 home runs, one in the 2nd inning against Weaver, and one later in the 7th against reliever Justin Speier. Rolen is hitting over .300 as a Blue Jay, as he collected 3 more hits last night.

To sum it up, a night that was supposed to be a happy one for the Halos with David Eckstien coming back to Angel Stadium and Howie Kendrick returning to the Angels lineup, turned into a bitter disappointment for the home team.

After having barely enough offense to win the first two games against Detroit, the Angels pitching could not hold up in their 6-2 loss to the Tigers. Joe Saunders gave up seven hits and five runs in five innings, but the story was Armando Galarraga, who shut out the Angels for 8.1 innings before allowing a two-run home run to Maicer I zturis. Galarraga was then lifted for Todd Jones who got the final two outs of the ballgame.

  • Marcus Thames supplied the offense for the Tigers, hitting a pair of home runs, both coming against Joe Saunders.
  • The Angels scored a total of six runs in the 3 game series, and still won 2 of those games.

The Angels and Tigers both have Thursday off. The Angels will host the Blue Jays over the weekend, as the Tigers will fly up to play struggling Seattle.

The Los Angeles came up just short as they lost to the Los Angeles on Thursday night by the score of 4-3.  The Angels were out hit in the game by 10-7 and they just couldn’t get the big hit that they needed to do to either tie or take the lead.

Ervin Santana tossed six innings while giving up nine hits and all four Blue Jays runs.   The winning run for the Blue Jays came in the sixth inning when Santana gave up a solo home run to Lyle Overbay.  Santana is now 6-2 on the season.

Darren Oliver and Justin Speier both pitched scoreless inning for the Angels as they didn’t allow a run in the seventh or eighth innings.

The Angels got one rbi each from Maicer Izturis, Jeff Mathis, and Sean Rodriguez.  The veterans of the team were no where to be found tonight and that is why the Angels lost the game if you ask me.

The Los Angels Angels were able to get by the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 3-1 on Tuesday night.  John Lackey picked up his first win in the last eight months as well in the game.

Lackey tossed seven innings and gave up seven hits but only one run to get the win as he improved to 1-0 on the season.  I think Lackey will come out and be a great pitcher for the Angels now that he got the first win of of the season.

Scot Shields pitched a scoreless eighth inning before Francisco Rodriguez came in to pick up his 18th save of the season.

Garret Anderson grounded into a double play in the first inning but atleast a run cross the plate for the Angels.  Then in the third inning Casey Kotchman had a rbi double and in the seventh inning, Vladimir Guerrero had a sacrafice fly.

Good win for the Angels!  Angels Blog

Francisco Rodriguez did what rarely happens in a game.  He gave up the game winning single in the ninth inning as the Chicago White Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-2 to split the series.  Jim Thome singled off Rodriguez in the ninth inning to provide the winning run for the White Sox.

Rodriguez took the loss which was his first of the season as he is now 0-1.  Former White Sox pitcher Jon Garland got the start on the mound for the White Sox and pitched ok.  Garland tossed six innings and gave up seven hits and three runs.  Things could have been much worse for Garland much he worked himself out of a couple jams in the game.

Darren Oliver and Jose Arredondo combined to pitch two scoreless innings in relief of Garland.

At the plate for the Angels, Garret Anderson and Casey Kotchman each had one rbi.  They both came in the first inning when Anderson had a rbi single and Kotchman had a two run double.  Anderson scored the Angel’s third run in the seventh inning on an error by Joe Crede.

The Los Angeles Angels and Chicago White Sox were tied 1-1 heading into the eighth inning but then Carlos Quentin hit a grand slam off of Scot Shields and the White Sox went on to beat the Angeles 6-1.

Shields took the loss the Angels and dropped his record to 2-1 on the season.  He wasn’t the only reliever to give up a home run or run however as Jose Arredondo served up a solo home run to Nick Swisher in the ninth inning.

Angels starting pitcher John Lackey tossed seven innings and only gave up six hits and no runs.  He pitched very well and should have got a win if he would have had any runs support and the bullpen would have held up like they usually do.

The only run the Angels could get was in the fifth inning on a Mike Napoli sacrafice fly that scored Maicer Izturis.

The Los Angeles Angels three hit the Chicago White Sox but it almost wasn’t enough to get the win as it took two runs in the eighth inning to finally get the Angels on the scoreboard.  The Angels went onto get a rbi sac fly and and rbi single in he eighth inning to finally score.

Mike Napoli had the sac fly rbi while Robb Quinlan had the rbi single.

Starting pitcher Jered Weaver tossed seven strong innings as he only gave up one hit.  Weaver ended up getting a no decision however as the Angels had no runs on the board when he left the game.  Scot Shields got the win as he pitched the eighth inning, Shields is now 2-0 on the season.  Closer Francisco Rodriguez picked up his 16th save of the season in the ninth inning.

Good win for the Angles even though the offense struggled.  The pitchers picked this hitters up that is for sure.  Angels Blog

Vladimir Guerrero went 2-4 with four rbi to lead the Los Angeles Angels past the Chicago White Sox 10-7 on Monday night.  The Angels pounded White Sox starter Mark Buehrle for ten hits and eight total runs in a little over five innings of action.

Guerrero had a three run home run in the fifth inning and then a rbi single in the sixth inning to lead the Angels.  Casey Kotchman finished with two rbi as he has a two run single in the sixth inning.  Gary Matthews Jr., Erick Aybar, Garret Anderson, and Mike Napoli all finished the game with one rbi each.

It was Nick Adenhart who picked up the win for the Angels after tossing 5 2/3 innings.  Adenhart gave up nine hits and four runs so he didn’t have his best stuff, but it was good enough to pick up his first win of the season.

Chris Bootcheck gave up two runs and Scot Shields gave up a run before Francisco Rodriguez came in to pick up the save in the ninth inning.  It was Rodriguez’s 15th save of the season.

The Los Angeles Angels were going for the three game sweep on the road against the Kansas City Royals but came up short as they lost 9-4 on Wednesday night.  The Angeles had won the first two games of the series before dropping the final game.

Jered Weaver struggled on the mound as he tossed 3 1/3 innings and gave up ten hits and eight runs.  David DeJesus and Alex Gordon both took Weaver deep as they hit home runs as well.  Weaver fell to 2-5 on the season with the loss.

Chris Bootcheck pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief of Weaver and he allowed three hits and one run.  Darren O’Day was finally able to hold the Royals scoreless as he pitched the final two innings of the game.

Mike Napoli and Garrett Anderson both hit home runs for the Angels but it clearly wasn’t enough for the Angels to win the game.  Napoli had two rbi while Anderson and Vladimir Guerrero had one rbi in the game.  The Angels left 12 runners on base and struck out 10 times as well.

The Angels will have Thursday off before they start a three game series down in Tampa Bay.  Angels Blog
